Mandala, Meditation & Mindfulness Garden

mandala garden chelsea flower show 2022

Inspired by conditions imposed by the pandemic, The Mandala Garden is a place in which to escape. It offers a safe haven to spend time sitting and meditating, listening to the tranquil water, bees humming and birds singing – a calm and restful but rejuvenating space.

A mandala is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas are used for focusing attention, or as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation.

After moving into a new build property a few years ago, I had no clue what to do with the garden and no money to pay for a garden designer. Thinking I could easily do it myself, I realised after going to the garden centre to buy a few plants, that it was much more difficult than I had anticipated. I was overwhelmed with the choice of plants, with tiny plant labels that didn’t make much sense, and I had no idea what plant went where. The seed of a ready-made design kit was sown.

I attended Pershore Horticultural College and a few months after finishing my course I submitted my application to RHS Malvern. I won a Silver Medal and the Peoples Choice Award and met Alan Titchmarsh. Alan purchased the sheep sculptures off my show garden and when I delivered them we had a chat about Border in a Box. He was so kind and helpful. I launched my ready-made kits the following year and left my corporate IT job to set up Border in a Box.

My ethos is to help everyone achieve a gorgeous garden easily, no green fingers required. I find most people want a beautiful outside space but no clue where to start. I was in their shoes and my kits are a simple place to start.
